Project Overview
The Kyiv Heritage Arch is an iconic civic monument designed to celebrate Ukrainian cultural identity and historical resilience through a futuristic architectural lens. Positioned prominently within a public plaza overlooking the Kyiv skyline, the sculptural arch incorporates geometric structural framing, dynamic integrated lighting, and a front reflecting pool that emphasizes its presence day and night.
The structure features an asymmetrical, parabolic arch form topped with angular geometric crests. Linear LED strips trace the internal contours of the frame, illuminating its sleek modern materials and creating a striking silhouette against the dusk sky. Set atop a paved public square bordered by pine trees and a serene water feature, the arch functions as both a symbolic gateway and a central focal point framing panoramic views of the city center.
Our Role
Concept Architectural Designer: Formulated the sculptural arch geometry, plaza layout, and contextual orientation within the urban landscape.
Technical & Fabrication Supervisor: Oversaw the generation and validation of detailed shop drawings to guarantee structural precision, complex geometry execution, and seamless lighting integration.
The Challenge
Complex Geometric Structural Integrity: Engineering a multi-angled, asymmetrical arch with wide spans while maintaining clean visual lines without heavy external bracing.
Integrated Lighting Details: Embedding continuous linear lighting channels seamlessly into the structural clad panels without exposing fixtures, wiring, or maintenance joints.
Public Realm & Plaza Integration: Harmonizing the heavy steel/composite monument with a reflective water feature, surrounding greenery, and high-traffic pedestrian pavement.
Design Solution
Designed an internal steel truss armature clad in light-toned, weather-resistant composite paneling to maintain structural rigidity while achieving an elegant, dynamic profile.
Spec’d custom recessed lighting channels along the inner curve of the structure to produce a uniform halo effect while keeping all physical fixtures hidden within the architectural profile.
Oriented the arch directly along a civic visual axis, utilizing the reflecting pool in front to mirror the arch geometry and amplify the visual connection to the historic cityscape behind it.
